The name of the park is adopted form the Ranth-ambore fort which is situated inside the park itself. The hunting grounds of the maharajas were marked as tiger reserve lands by the government in 1973. It was from 1980 onwards that it gained the status of a National Park. More sanctuaries added to the land and as of today, it is spread over more than 1700 square kilometers of land. Vindhyas and Aravalis hill ranges surround the park which is why the park itself has a hilly geography. Other than multiple flora and fauna species, you can also find a lot of geographical diversity. There are three lakes in the park which add to the scenic beauty. Firstly, you can fly to Jaipur directly. The Sanganer Airport is the nearest airport to the park. It is 176km away. This remaining distance can be covered by car or train. Check your flights : https://www.cleartrip.com/

Traveling by road is the other option. The drive from Jaipur to the park is around 3 and a half hour long. You can also drive from Agra to the park directly in 6 hours or from Delhi to the park in eight hours. Jhansi and Orchha are also connected to the park through well-built roads.

Another option is to opt for traveling through a train. You can take a train from Mumbai, Delhi or Jaipur. The travel time from Jaipur will be 2 and a half hour, from Delhi it will be 6 hours, and from Mumbai, it will take 15 hours to get to the local station. The park is around 10km away from the station of SawaiMadhopur.

Few direct trains from Delhi to SawaiMadhopur and then drive of approx15 mins to reach Ranthamore.

The park remains open from October till mid of July. After that, the weather gets too hot and monsoon season arrives. In this season, not only is it hard to spot tigers but monsoon makes the park a dangerous zone. October to April is the best time recommended to visit the park since the weather is either cold or moderate. Towards the springtime, the flora starts to bloom as well, making the park more beautiful. If you visit during the winter time, make sure you carry warm woolen clothes. April onwards, the weather gets too hot for the animals so they keep hiding in the shade. If you do visit in the summertime, do not forget the sunscreen. There are different types of vehicles allotted for different zones depending on the day’s weather and conditions. However, a jeep safari is the most fun. Canter (bus) safari is safer for larger groups, especially if there are children with them.

The Ranthambore National Park provides a natural habitat for a lot of animals. Tigers are the most common sight. This location is listed as one of the best places for tiger photography.
