History of Ranthambore National Park
Ranthambore National Park owes its name to the fort that dominates the area, which itself owes its name to the hills on which it was built, Thanbhor and Ran.
This immense natural area was the former hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur. Hunting continued there until 1970. The tiger population was then almost vanished. Since 1973, the Tiger Project has been launched. 9 tiger reserves were then chosen, including Ranthambore which was declared a national park in 1981.
Today, the tiger population is on the rise again. The drastic management of safaris guarantees the tranquility of the animals. What a joy to discover this fauna in such an evocative setting, between ruins from another time and magnificent landscapes.
Ranthambore National Park zones
There are ten zones in the park. Zones 1 – 10. Initially, they were five, but after the reserve gained popularity, there was the creation of 5 more zones. People believe that zones 1-5 offer the best spots to view tigers. However, zones 6-10 also have several sections for tiger sighting. Zone two has numerous water holes, making it the most significant sector. You can regularly spot several animals, including leopards. On the other hand, zone 6 is different from all the others because it has a unique landscape. It provides tourists with numerous opportunities to spot birds, among them the endangered Red-Headed Vultures.
